Are You a Home Based Business Owner – Insure Your Business Right Now

You decided to be your own boss and start your own home based business. Now that your business is settling down, it’s very necessary that you insure it- as soon as possible! Most people never think of using discount coupons to save money. Think of a home based business insurance policy as a discount coupon- it will save you a lot of money in the long run.   I already have Home Insurance; I don’t need Business Insurance! If you think your home insurance will cover your home based business, then you are mistaking. In fact, it’s very possible that your home insurance may well be voided by your home based business. A separate home based business insurance policy is necessary to cover any damages to your business in addition to your home.   Why Should You Insure your Business? Most people think that home insurance will cover all the damages in case of, say, an earthquake. But home...

Women in the Workplace: From IT to Online Fax Services.

Women in the Workplace: From IT to Online Fax Services.

Technology is the way of the future. Most people can’t go one day without hearing someone say this. It’s like insanity except we’re saying something over and over instead of doing something over and over. Everyone knows about the intrinsic and extrinsic values of technology, but the most important thing that technology does is empower the individual, especially future business women. Large historical and cultural movements started the momentum and placed women on equal ground in the eyes of the law, but technology now places them on a new echelon in the workplace. Women now have all the same business resources as men and they are beginning to storm the working world. From online fax service to cloud computing, let’s discuss technology, strategy, and women in the workplace.   Communication From personal experience, I would venture to say that women are much better communicators than men. Women pick up on internal cues better, have higher emotional intelligence than men, and...

Carbonite Eases Midlife Memory Issues

Carbonite Eases Midlife Memory Issues

This post brought to you by Carbonite. All opinions are 100% mine. Surviving a computer crash can be more than stressful, let me tell you. The chances of recovering data in a quantity of situations are impossible. Recalling my early computing days, the lack of computer knowledge, and naive expectations are true hilarity. This is how the conversation went: Me (Pre-Midlife): “You can’t just copy the data off that overheated and dead hard drive?” Computer tech: “No that would cost thousands and require computer forensics to accomplish.” Me: “So, you can’t recover the job files for our entire company.” Computer tech: “No Ma’am I can’t recover the data from that hard drive. However, what I do can is to reload your software and data onto a new hard drive. Do you have a back up cd?” Me: “Uuumm, backup, well no, err yes but it’s at least six months old…” (heart attack on the spot) Needless to say, I...

Shopping Alert | Dell Best Selling Desktop Deals

Shopping Alert | Dell Best Selling Desktop Deals

Do more. Share more. Be more. The Dell Inspiron 620 is currently one of the best deals available, especially for a home based business. Dell boasts, “With the latest 2nd Gen Intel® Core™ processors, you’ll whiz through tasks with time to spare.” My first Dell purchase was six or seven years ago. My son was ecstatic, Dude you’re getting a Dell! In fact, I customized the very computer in the video. Dell’s customer service is superior and far exceeded my expectations. This particular computer survived four years of high school, recording heavy metal sound tracks, LAN gaming parties, and three years of college with about five apartment moves. The computer was still running good until a lightening during a heavy Florida thunderstorm zapped it last summer. Throughout the years, Dell NEVER refused us free service. They always assisted with restoring issues and even provided restore downloads when the discs were too old and scratched to use. For additional savings...

Has Cloud-based Computing Made Employee Relocation Unnecessary?

Has Cloud-based Computing Made Employee Relocation Unnecessary?

Setting all the jargon and the techno-speak aside, there’s no doubt that recent advances in “cloud computing” and “software as a service” (SAAS) have the potential to change the world. As more work becomes exclusively computer-based, and as more business can be conducted over the Internet, workers have greater opportunities to work remotely. As the number of people who can work remotely increases, corporation relocation is sure to raise at least one tough question: Should the corporation relocate employees, or should it allow them to stay where they are and work remotely?   Why Relocating Workers Might Make Sense Relocating employees from one part of the world to another certainly isn’t cheap, but it might be more cost-effective than allowing employees to work remotely. According to a study by VitalSmarts, a corporate training company, employees working remotely are more likely to have problems relating to co-workers than employees who share an office. While many would dispute this study’s findings,...

Money Saving Home Office Supply Tips

Saving a few dollars every week adds up fast. Spending just $40.00 per month on office supplies computes to $480.00 per year. What could you do with $240.00?   1. Do you have a beautiful or favorite wall calendar? How much did it cost? The average wall calendar starts around $6.99. Instead of buying a new one, print each month on plain paper and clip it to the lower half. That is almost 25% of the savings example.   2. Tri-fold brochures can be rather expensive. Consider buying double-sided rack card printing instead. Not only will they be a heavier paper stock than a brochure oftentimes a gloss finish is included. These can serve multiple purposes such as a brochure, rack card, or perhaps even a door hanger. The difference in price here is at least $20.00. 3. Keep a file of used printed pages next to the printer. Print on the blank sides of previously, unwanted plain paper...

Lexmark Profits, Marketing Success?

Lexmark Profits, Marketing Success?

Lexmark beat Wall Street’s expectations, showing a fourth-quarter profit and ending shares up 10 percent. The company’s strong laser printer sales drove the jump, according to Reuters. Laser printer sales rose 11 percent, despite the fact that the printing industry has been struggling as customers move to digital content. Furthermore, within the last year, Lexmark had a market cap of $2.74 billion and generated more than $500 million in cash. Lexmark’s profits may indicate that the company is gaining momentum in the market share from rivals. “Our business is seeing the positive impact in the key strategic investment in technology and services along with the manufacturing and support infrastructure reductions we have made over the last several years,” Lexmark Chief Executive Paul Rooke said during a conference call with analysts. “ I’m wondering if their Outsmart Evil marketing campaign was the final push in this newest revenue increase. The slogan is quite popular and very economically relevant. Check out their Outsmart...
