Florida New Years Day Feast – Grilling with GravyMaster

Florida New Years Day Feast – Grilling with GravyMaster

This post brought to you by GravyMaster. All opinions are 100% mine. “GravyMaster® is NOT just for gravy” – An Overview It once was a common misconception that gravy enhancer was generally used to augment color and season gravy. In fact, one Chow Hound forum contributor claimed, “I use Gravy Master because my mother, the gravy queen, used it. I just add a few drops to gravy to perk up the color and flavor. ” Today, products like Gravy Master do more than create rich colored gravy. Caramelize onions, sealing in natural juices, and enhancing marinades are just a few ways Gravy Master enhances recipes. Another mistaken belief is GravyMaster and other gravy enhancer must be high in sodium. This is simply not the case. One teaspoon contains 120 mg sodium. The FDA claims, “The Dietary Guidelines recommend that the general population consume no more than 2,300 milligrams of sodium a day (about a teaspoon of table salt).” Ingredients...

Baking Tips – Conquering My Baking FAIL!

Baking Tips – Conquering My Baking FAIL!

For many years, I had a phobia about baking. You see, I love to cook and have a passion for creating quick and easy new dishes from old traditional recipes. However, every cake or muffin I ever baked was either dry or simply lacked flavor. At the onset of the holidays, my phobia forced panicky check in calls to the “family bakers” ensuring home baked goods would be on hand for family holiday meals. One day I asked my sister, who is the family Christmas cookie provider every year, what I was doing wrong. She replied with a chuckle, “Kath, you can bake, it’s easy. The difference between baking and cooking is to follow the recipe EXACTLY when baking. Once you master a baking recipe then put your own spin on it.” Those words stuck in my head and in 2009, I overcame my baking phobia. I started out baking simple recipes followed by a whole lot of reading....

Shopping Alert | Amazing Pumpkin Recipes Crafts Carvings

Shopping Alert | Amazing Pumpkin Recipes Crafts Carvings

The first day of Fall just around the corner, pumpkin recipes are a popular trend among food bloggers right now. It is amazing what ingredients are paired with pumpkin. Keeping with the trend, this weeks shopping alert will include awesome pumpkin products and recipes finds as well.  A creative pumpkin appetizer that screams fall flavor, Parmesan Pasta Crackers with Pumpkin and Cauliflower, was found on Foodalogue, one of my favorite food blogs. Joan’s culinary and creative talent never ceases to amaze me! My dear foodie friend Catherine, author of The Living Gourmet, shared her spicy Pumpkin – Tomato soup. Tomato soup recalls fond childhood memories for many. With the addition of pumpkin, I  classify this one as a childhood favorite for adults. Another classic recipe with a pumpkin twist is this Pumpkin Macaroni & Cheese. The recipe originated from cooking light and includes 2 cups of pumpkin or squash and a crumble topping.  The breads, muffins, and sweets category proved to be swoon...

White Whole Wheat Flour – Healthier Baking

A simple diet alteration such as replacing all-purpose flour with white whole wheat flour can be an easy step toward a healthier diet and lifestyle.  The health benefits of a diet rich in whole grains is amazing. Diets rich in whole wheat and grains play a major role in reducing the risks of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes, according to researchers at Wake Forest University School of Medicine and The American Diabetes Association. Some epidemiological studies have found whole-grain intake to be associated with decreased cancer risk. The abundant antioxidant offering provides valuable protection against free radical damage to our cells.   What is White Whole Wheat Flour? The whole grains council defines white wheat as a whole-flour, including the bran, germ, and endosperm, made from white wheat. Think of it is as albino wheat if you will, that packs the same whole grain healthy punch as regular whole wheat minus the red color genes. Gold Medal asserts...

Receiving an opportunity to share My Signature Pasta Dish in conjunction with SocialMoms.com and Carrabas Pasta Personality Promotion was a perfect fit! My closest friends will tell you Baked Ziti is my Signature Pasta Dish. For me baked ziti is known as pasta for My American Friends! The history of this baked ziti dish stems from a long-lived family tradition. For many generations my family gathered on Christmas Eve to enjoy The Feast of Seven Fishes prior to attending midnight mass. Our Christmas Eve feast was originally held at Grandmas house, then passed on to my mother. Today I am the custodian of the tradition. Moving to Florida in the early 1980s and without family for some time, I forged friendships that I consider family. Every Christmas my parents would come and stay at...
