Make a Difference|Support Safe Drinking Water for Children

A well-respected midlife woman and Christian friend once told me, “Water is the gift of life. It was given by God.” Speaking with great inspiration, she explained how she believed that children who drank plenty of clean water warded of all types of illness. I followed her advice and attest to her beliefs. My boys rarely contracted a flu or cold that traveled through out their classrooms.  Did you know every day more than 4,000 children in developing countries die, simply because they don’t have clean drinking water? Join Proctor and Gamble in the Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program (CSDW) to provide clean drinking water to people who really really need it.  P & G believes our help will make a difference and this now midlife woman wholeheartedly concurs. GIVE HEALTH collaborates with the non-profit P&G Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program (CSDW) to provide PUR packets in developing countries. Developed by P&G and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, PUR...

Safe Driving for Seniors | Dad Can’t Drive 55

Look to experts for advice if you happen to be the midlife child responsible for relinquishing a parent’s driving privileges. In many cases knowing one can drive is worth more than actually driving. I learned the magnitude of this senior driving theory firsthand as this was the case with my father. Signs of Driving Deterioration I noticed Dad’s outings becoming less and less. After living with us for about seven months, I noticed his trips to the store were reduced to maybe once every three weeks. He began to encourage me to drive his car rather than my own. Admittedly, I was rather relieved that his driving was less. I had ridden with him many times. He hugged the white line, drove with two feet, and didn’t notice traffic signs until he was upon them. I felt his vision and motor skills were not sufficient for safe driving not to mention his memory and hearing deterioration. In fact, with every trip...

Eyeglass Prescription Facts

Did you ever wonder what the letters and numbers in an eyeglass prescription represent? I found these eye facts while browsing the cheap eyeglasses under the Frequently Asked Questions at greateyeglasses.com. My youngest son was fitted with his first pair of eyeglasses at fifteen months, it was a sad and joyous occasion. It took a great deal of coaxing to convince him to actually put the glasses on his face. However, once accomplished it was as if a completely new world was exposed to him. From that point forward, he didn’t want to take them off, not even when he slept! I felt very sad about his vision problems. Sounds silly to be sad when he was so overwhelmingly happy I know. What made me sad was knowing my baby boy wasn’t physically perfect. Even with that amount of vision experience, I still had no idea how many technical measurements were required for an eyeglass prescription. No wonder they ask so...

Colon Cleansing – No Crap, Grandma was Right Again!

Did you know the idea of natural colon cleansing dates back to ancient Greece? Cleansing the colon, which is the large intestine, became popular in the 1920s and 1930s in the United States. At some point, the theories behind it lost support and it fell out of favor. As you may have noticed recently, colon cleansing has experienced rebirth by the use of teas, enzymes, and/or colon irrigation. Because researchers have devoted little study to colon cleansing plenty of questions remain such as, is colon-cleansing good for you? In addition, does anyone really need it? To a certain extent, medical judgment has yet to be finalized on the subject. What is natural colon cleansing anyway? WebMD states two main colon-cleansing methods. One involves buying products like enemas, laxatives, strong herbal teas, powders, and antiparasite capsules such as colonetix. The other involves seeing a practitioner to have colon irrigation. Natural Colon Cleansing One of the core theories behind colon cleansing...

Giving Up Your Soul

Yep, I kept wondering why I survived that motorcycle crash. After years of suffering through to recovery and dealing with the sadness over the circumstances surrounding the crash I thought the answer was clear. I was spared to help others, be a light in a dark world. Offer hope and assistance. What a beautiful lie I told myself. This is a rant of sorts, seems midlife hormonal changes delivered this little five day mental state… Now that 30 years have passed I realize that I’m not a light but rather simply an enabler. I didn’t offer hope. I did for others what they wouldn’t or couldn’t do for themselves. With the title enabler comes constant self sacrifice. And I don’t mean giving up your favorite movie to take some one to the store either, that is being nice and thoughtful.  I mean giving up yourself, ignoring your wants, needs, feelings. Hell, someone who puts everyone before them self really has no time for...

Nutritional Facts | The Dreaded

Nutritional Facts | The Dreaded

It is amazing how countless aspects of life are modified at midlife, including ones nutritional necessities. As a young mother and wife, nutrition facts were very important to me. Back in the day, I labeled the task of grocery shopping “the dreaded.” Acquaintances happening upon my label thought it quite hilarious. Those who knew me well understood completely. You see, I was label reader and very particular about what my family consumed. This is not to say that I am a food extremist but rather vigilantly responsible about their nutritional values. As a result, I would spend countless hours in the grocery store. Every new product received a thorough examination prior to my purchasing. Nowadays I continue to perform “the dreaded” but for those who have a completely different set of nutritional needs. Aaahhh midlife learning… simply embrace it!   Upon receiving the opportunity to review quicknutritionfacts.com, I enthusiastically accepted. The mission of quicknutritionfacts.com is to provide users with...

Overcome Addiction with Family Intervention

Overcome Addiction with Family Intervention

Drug addiction can happen to any family. Early detection and family intervention oftentimes will prevent a lifelong addiction. Having personal experience through extended family members and friends, I believe that intervention works in many cases. Impressed with intervention methods and the reality shows that expose the method, I read up on several different intervention programs. The founder of intervention 911 was himself an addict. His BlogSpot bio reads, “After struggling with his own addictions and finding long-term recovery, Ken Seeley was determined to give back by helping people caught up in the destructive and often fatal cycle of addiction. In 2002, Intervention 911 was born out of that desire and since then, has been providing families and their loved ones options and solutions leading to life-long recover. By developing the H.E.L.P.S. method of intervention, based on life experience and industry best practices, Ken Seeley, and his team of professionals have helped thousands of families regain hope and serenity. Addiction...
