Puppies or Babies | An Epic Battle of Cuteness

Puppies or Babies | An Epic Battle of Cuteness

This post brought to you by Puppies vs. Babies. All opinions are 100% mine. Animal Planet is ready to rumble… Puppies versus Babies! Oh my gosh this is too funny. Reminds me of the America’s Funniest Home Video TV show our family used to enjoy so much. That’s why I agreed to sponsor this post. Fond recollections of family time are priceless and need to be emphasized. The lead in for this TV show is brilliant, both species of offspring seem to instantly create a warm, fuzzy feeling. Aaawww look how cute, you have heard it said and probably said something similar as well. It is a natural reaction for baby lovers regardless of the species. Puppies versus Babies airs Oct 29th and continues through November. In this epic battle of cute, only one can emerge victorious… puppies or babies and kittens too! The promo video exclaims, “Get ready for the ultimate clash of cute!” Check out the Puppies vs....

Baking Tips – Conquering My Baking FAIL!

Baking Tips – Conquering My Baking FAIL!

For many years, I had a phobia about baking. You see, I love to cook and have a passion for creating quick and easy new dishes from old traditional recipes. However, every cake or muffin I ever baked was either dry or simply lacked flavor. At the onset of the holidays, my phobia forced panicky check in calls to the “family bakers” ensuring home baked goods would be on hand for family holiday meals. One day I asked my sister, who is the family Christmas cookie provider every year, what I was doing wrong. She replied with a chuckle, “Kath, you can bake, it’s easy. The difference between baking and cooking is to follow the recipe EXACTLY when baking. Once you master a baking recipe then put your own spin on it.” Those words stuck in my head and in 2009, I overcame my baking phobia. I started out baking simple recipes followed by a whole lot of reading....

Women, Obesity, and Education

College Bound Woman

Interesting info on how weight and level of education have been proven to be related. What do women, obesity, and education have to do with each other? Quite a bit actually. Recently the CDC released statistics collected between 2005 and 2008 relating to obesity in theUnited States. According to the CDC survey, between 2007 and 2008, more than one-third of all American adults were obese. The data showed surprising statistics relating to women and obesity in relation to their level of education. Obesity means that a person’s body mass index (BMI) is 30 or greater. To calculate body mass you divide weight by height. People who are obese are at greater risk to have other health problems such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and cancer. Compared to the rest of the world, the U.S. is by far the most overweight nation. And contrary to popular belief, it isn’t the impoverished that have troubles with obesity, it is all those...

A Security Alarm System You Already Own

Can”t afford a medical alert or home alarm system? Store your car keys beside your bed at night. A friend sent me this safety tip and really hit home for me. You see my mother in law was home alone when she fell and broke her hip a few years ago. It was a long and terrible night for her. The outcome for mom, our Sweet Caroline, was even worse. I only wish I had received this tip before that day. For those who have read this safety tip before, please pass it on to someone else! This safety tip originated from a neighborhood watch coordinator. Next time you come home for the night and you start to put your keys away, think of this: Those car keys are a security alarm system you already have that require no installation.   With car keys on the nightstand, deterring a break in is easy; simply press the panic button on...
