A Legal Loan or Loan Sharks?

The slogan reads, “WHERE THERE IS A BEGINNING AND AN END.” It is amazing what types of businesses desperate economic times has produced. Earlier this year I wrote about women selling their body parts to make ends meet. This title loan company has emerged at time when people are desperate. Never would I point the finger and say, or think, that someone who partakes in these financial dealings is dumb. Desperate is the appropriate word and sorrow the proper emotion.  Targeting the financially desperate is a sign of the times it seems. Read these company’s FAQS and sample loan repayment schedule; I’m thinking loan sharks, how about you? How do I qualify? (1) Vehicle needs to have a wholesale value of $2500.00. (2) Vehicle cannot be over 10 years old. (3) Loan applicant must be at least 18 years of age. What is required to apply for an auto title loan? Auto title ( free and clear of any liens) Personal...

Midlife Shopping Alert | Life Insurance

Rather than a fun shopping alert this week, I’m sharing this life insurance web site, Wholesaleinsurance.net. The live term life insurance quote tool supports the idea that those whose choose to wait until middle age to purchase life insurance will certainly pay higher premiums. Realizing that premiums will rise with age, my purpose is simply to provoke midlife thought and planning. The reluctance young people express about purchasing life insurance is understandable: the common perception is that life insurance is for old people, and when you’re 20 or 30, chances are you have a long, great life ahead of you. However, in terms of life insurance, this can be to your advantage. Americans that shop for a life insurance policy at midlife – when they are in their forties or fifties – may have fallen into the grip of bad habits. Smoking, obesity, or high alcohol consumption along with health problems like diabetes, heart disease, or cancer may have entered their life picture. All...

Sweet Caroline | Good Times Never Seemed So Good

Sweet Caroline | Good Times Never Seemed So Good

The AP reported the good times never seemed so good for Neil Diamond. Neil Diamond will be honored with Broadway singer Barbara Cook, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, saxophonist Sonny Rollins, and actress Meryl Streep for their contributions to American culture through the arts. I smiled fondly reading the article. Carolyn would have been ecstatic about the news! She was the biggest Neil Diamond fan I ever knew. My mother in law – Carolyn – simply adored Neil Diamond. In fact, back in 2008 when she found out Neil was performing in Tampa, she pitched an “I’ll buy, you fly” deal to me. You see, traffic and the never-ending roadwork in Florida make driving  for seniors difficult and frightening. There was simply no way I would refuse this dear 70 year old woman the opportunity. It was early spring when we bought the tickets. Level one directly across from the stage about 10 rows up were the best tickets I could get. She...

Massaging Gel Insoles Review | Are You Gellin?

Dr. Scholl’s is a trusted brand of which I have patronized over the years. The company has been in operation for nearly one hundred years. Their insoles and inserts are designed for specific foot situations such as work, sports, arch/heel support, and walking. Working as a server and restaurant manager years ago, I used Dr. Scholl’s inserts to support the ball and heel of my feet. They performed exceptionally, providing relief for my achy, overworked feet and legs. Given my personal experience, I was eager to review the new massaging gel insoles. Much to my dismay, the insoles I received were for men, size 8-13, designed to add support, absorb shock, and supply maximize comfort. The instructions direct the user to cut the insole to fit the shoes size. However, cutting to fit my shoe would have likely wasted at least one third of the sole. Hhhmmm   Dr. Scholl’s Massaging Gel Soles Review I decided to pass the...

Allergy or Zombie Virus?

Allergy or Zombie Virus?

Sometimes it’s hard to tell whether you have plain old allergies or something more sinister like, say, a zombie virus. We’re here to help! It’s important to know if you’re in danger of spreading an apocalyptic virus to your loved ones, coworkers or laundry guy, so here’s how you can tell the difference between allergy symptoms (even severe ones) and a full-fledged zombie virus. A rash can accompany both an allergic reaction and a zombie virus. Mild allergy rashes may itch. Zombie rashes are not so much raised and itchy as they are cavernous oozing wounds that seep gore. If you ask your spouse to look at your rash and he or she gasps in horror and slowly backs away, chances are that you have a zombie virus. If your spouse has this reaction to a regular allergy rash, tell them cowboy up, get the cortizone and call the advice nurse. Honestly, this is marriage. They’ll see worse. You...

Carbonite Eases Midlife Memory Issues

Carbonite Eases Midlife Memory Issues

This post brought to you by Carbonite. All opinions are 100% mine. Surviving a computer crash can be more than stressful, let me tell you. The chances of recovering data in a quantity of situations are impossible. Recalling my early computing days, the lack of computer knowledge, and naive expectations are true hilarity. This is how the conversation went: Me (Pre-Midlife): “You can’t just copy the data off that overheated and dead hard drive?” Computer tech: “No that would cost thousands and require computer forensics to accomplish.” Me: “So, you can’t recover the job files for our entire company.” Computer tech: “No Ma’am I can’t recover the data from that hard drive. However, what I do can is to reload your software and data onto a new hard drive. Do you have a back up cd?” Me: “Uuumm, backup, well no, err yes but it’s at least six months old…” (heart attack on the spot) Needless to say, I...

Midlife Back To School Giveaway – HUH?

Midlife Back To School Giveaway – HUH?

Why would A Midlife Woman be hosting a Back To School Giveaway? Y’all know or may have suspected being a midlife woman my boys are full-grown men. Yet I am still a huge supporter of General Mills. Truth is the brand brings back fond childhood memories, and perhaps this is the case for many of you as well. In addition, a bowl of cold cereal is still something I enjoy very much. In June General Mills celebrated their 70th Birthday and yours truly was interviewed by AP writer Carolyn Thompson. She said a Google search for General Mills returned A Midlife Woman. That is a true General Mills fan don’t you think? Flattered and flustered I didn’t even request a plug. Duh. If you are interested, this is the interview.   Back To School Giveaway One lucky winner will receive - One box of Lucky Charms® Cereal Treats Bars, One box of Golden Grahams® Cereal Treats Bars, Lunch bag, Locker whiteboard, Colored pencil set...
