Carbonite Eases Midlife Memory Issues

Carbonite Eases Midlife Memory Issues

This post brought to you by Carbonite. All opinions are 100% mine. Surviving a computer crash can be more than stressful, let me tell you. The chances of recovering data in a quantity of situations are impossible. Recalling my early computing days, the lack of computer knowledge, and naive expectations are true hilarity. This is how the conversation went: Me (Pre-Midlife): “You can’t just copy the data off that overheated and dead hard drive?” Computer tech: “No that would cost thousands and require computer forensics to accomplish.” Me: “So, you can’t recover the job files for our entire company.” Computer tech: “No Ma’am I can’t recover the data from that hard drive. However, what I do can is to reload your software and data onto a new hard drive. Do you have a back up cd?” Me: “Uuumm, backup, well no, err yes but it’s at least six months old…” (heart attack on the spot) Needless to say, I...

Shopping Alert | Dell Best Selling Desktop Deals

Shopping Alert | Dell Best Selling Desktop Deals

Do more. Share more. Be more. The Dell Inspiron 620 is currently one of the best deals available, especially for a home based business. Dell boasts, “With the latest 2nd Gen Intel® Core™ processors, you’ll whiz through tasks with time to spare.” My first Dell purchase was six or seven years ago. My son was ecstatic, Dude you’re getting a Dell! In fact, I customized the very computer in the video. Dell’s customer service is superior and far exceeded my expectations. This particular computer survived four years of high school, recording heavy metal sound tracks, LAN gaming parties, and three years of college with about five apartment moves. The computer was still running good until a lightening during a heavy Florida thunderstorm zapped it last summer. Throughout the years, Dell NEVER refused us free service. They always assisted with restoring issues and even provided restore downloads when the discs were too old and scratched to use. For additional savings...

Twitter Tools – Twitter Addictions Cured

Twitter Tools – Twitter Addictions Cured

Blogging is especially exciting for the novice. Social media and networking in the course of blog promotion can be even more exciting.  Successful, professional bloggers warn that a lack of understanding and discipline in using twitter, facebook, and other social media sites can be a huge waste of your valuable time. Hi. My name is Kathleen and I am a midlife A.D.D. Twitter addict. The 140 character messages along with the ability to tweet from anywhere, anytime, became an unsuccessful addiction.  The infatuation snowballs and before you know it, BAM three hours have passed and the daily to do list went untouched. I have to admit, blogging and social networking has been a great pleasure and truthfully a huge diversion to inexorable midlife complexities. However, this level of wasted time is obsessive, unacceptable and a lot like a drug addiction. I was warned. Shame on me! Some time ago, I read Patricia’s post Comments Do Not Equal Sales. She is a brilliant writer, a passionate...

The Retweet Killer

Do you use Twitter often, I do. In fact, I might like tweets and tweeting more than comments and commenting. That may be due to my dislike for typing or sometimes loss for the proper words. Perhaps I am simply a lurker at heart, I dunno. I perceive tweets this way not only are they faster and easier than comments but also shared with lots of other social media sites. Now I’m no tech specialist, social media expert, or have any other credentials for that matter. I find the tech stuff fascinating and programming quite interesting thus reading a wide variety blogs. I came across Sysomos.com, a social media analysis service and provider, who recently posted an extensive annual data comparison concerning Twitter users. Sysomos found a whopping 44% of the total Twitter population joined between January 2009 and Aug 2010.  What’s more, Twitter user info increased immensely in 2010. According to the article: - 82% of Twitter users now...

First Place Search – No Blue Ribbon

First Place Search – No Blue Ribbon

The recent Google update prompted an outbreak of opinions from reputable bloggers on this issue of search results. Growmap.com has posted extensive information and strong opinions on the subject. Big money and content farms (aka spam web sites) are making search a dangerous endeavor for the unfamiliar user. Netaccountant.net shared a fabulous technical study with me in a comment - Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication, 12(3), article 3. Have you ever conducted a search for something like diet pills? My aunt used to be a diet pill user. Thankfully, the internet was non-existent then. The search phrase “diet pill” returns one or two reputable websites. The search returned about the same results on Google and Yahoo; however, the AOL search returned nothing but rubbish. Google search when limited to the last month, returned results similar to AOL. How could this possibly be helpful to the industry or the internet consumer? Moreover, where does that leave the not so perceptive user? I mean,...

Lexmark Profits, Marketing Success?

Lexmark Profits, Marketing Success?

Lexmark beat Wall Street’s expectations, showing a fourth-quarter profit and ending shares up 10 percent. The company’s strong laser printer sales drove the jump, according to Reuters. Laser printer sales rose 11 percent, despite the fact that the printing industry has been struggling as customers move to digital content. Furthermore, within the last year, Lexmark had a market cap of $2.74 billion and generated more than $500 million in cash. Lexmark’s profits may indicate that the company is gaining momentum in the market share from rivals. “Our business is seeing the positive impact in the key strategic investment in technology and services along with the manufacturing and support infrastructure reductions we have made over the last several years,” Lexmark Chief Executive Paul Rooke said during a conference call with analysts. “ I’m wondering if their Outsmart Evil marketing campaign was the final push in this newest revenue increase. The slogan is quite popular and very economically relevant. Check out their Outsmart...

Dispelling the Inkjet Refill Fears

Do you prefer brand name ink jet cartridges or inexpensive cartridge refill kits? I have used both. Many people believe ink refills are as good as new cartridges. To be honest, I was a bit skeptical about refilling the HP inkjet cartridges, especially after seeing the print heads. They look so thin and delicate, I was afraid in the process of refilling it might be damaged. The decline in the housing market has imposed huge budget constraints on our business and forced me to overcome this fear. Did you know that an HP black inkjet printer cartridge costs on average thirty-five bucks? Using an inkjet refill kit provides the equivalent of three cartridges, a savings of about eighty bucks. In our company, that is equivalent to 90% of the cost of our state required continuing education classes, enough printer paper for almost a year, or ten months of fax services. Oh yes, after learning these facts the fear quickly...
