Nutritional Facts | The Dreaded

Nutritional Facts | The Dreaded

It is amazing how countless aspects of life are modified at midlife, including ones nutritional necessities. As a young mother and wife, nutrition facts were very important to me. Back in the day, I labeled the task of grocery shopping “the dreaded.” Acquaintances happening upon my label thought it quite hilarious. Those who knew me well understood completely. You see, I was label reader and very particular about what my family consumed. This is not to say that I am a food extremist but rather vigilantly responsible about their nutritional values. As a result, I would spend countless hours in the grocery store. Every new product received a thorough examination prior to my purchasing. Nowadays I continue to perform “the dreaded” but for those who have a completely different set of nutritional needs. Aaahhh midlife learning… simply embrace it!   Upon receiving the opportunity to review quicknutritionfacts.com, I enthusiastically accepted. The mission of quicknutritionfacts.com is to provide users with...

Vibrant Veggies Improve Womens Health

Vibrant Veggies Improve Womens Health

Merely one third of American women are meeting their fruit and vegetable intake recommendations, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Along with vitamins, minerals and fiber, fruits and vegetables contain a type of phytonutrient called carotenoids, compounds that give fruits and vegetables their vibrant colors. Research suggests these colorful fruits and vegetables may offer breast, ovarian and other health benefits for women. The skin is most definitely a benefactor. Choosing to increase the amount of the fruit and vegetables richest in carotenoids is important for long-term preventative health among women as well as improving their skin. Where skin conditions exist, especially acne prone skin, the use of topical acne products may be necessary along with a fruit and vegetable rich diet. A few of these easy substitutions will “power up” your plate and add new flavors to your meal plan: Green: A serving of cooked kale provides triple the amount of lutein/zeaxanthin as a serving of raw spinach. Red:...

First Place Search – No Blue Ribbon

First Place Search – No Blue Ribbon

The recent Google update prompted an outbreak of opinions from reputable bloggers on this issue of search results. Growmap.com has posted extensive information and strong opinions on the subject. Big money and content farms (aka spam web sites) are making search a dangerous endeavor for the unfamiliar user. Netaccountant.net shared a fabulous technical study with me in a comment - Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication, 12(3), article 3. Have you ever conducted a search for something like diet pills? My aunt used to be a diet pill user. Thankfully, the internet was non-existent then. The search phrase “diet pill” returns one or two reputable websites. The search returned about the same results on Google and Yahoo; however, the AOL search returned nothing but rubbish. Google search when limited to the last month, returned results similar to AOL. How could this possibly be helpful to the industry or the internet consumer? Moreover, where does that leave the not so perceptive user? I mean,...

Fat Burning Diet Pills, Spicy and Fruity?

Fat Burning Diet Pills, Spicy and Fruity?

Have you ever wondered about the ingredients of so-called fat burning diet pills? One of the most common ingredients found in these miracle diet pills is Thermodiamine. Apidexin, LipFuze, and Nuphedra all proclaim it as part of their fame! Check this Thermodiamine commentary out. I did a quantity of research on the technical health words found in this otherwise meaningless explanation. My notations are italicized to differentiate the original commentary from my health explanations. Thermodiamine, otherwise known as Evodiamine, is isolated from the unripe fruit of Evodia Rutaecarpa. In a recent study, (Kobayashi Y et al, 2001) when evodiamine was supplemented at 0.02% in the form of ethanol extract of Evodia fruits in a high-fat diet for 21 days, the body weight, perirenal fat weight and epididymal fat weight were found to be significantly reduced compared to the control group. In case you were wondering, perirenal fat is an accumulation of extra peritoneal fat that completely surrounds the kidney and epididymal fat is defined as...
