Carpet Cleaning | Mother Knows Best

Growing up, our family room flooring was deep red, plush carpet that was vacuumed every day without fail. Mom said it was an age old, long-standing carpet care fact that daily vacuuming and proper cleaning results in extended life of the carpet. If we groveled about having to vacuum she asked in a soft, serious tone, “Do you know how much money this carpet cost your father and I?” With that, we commenced vacuuming without argument. I remember how my mother swore by the dry cleaning method for carpets. Her simple common sense theory “moisture was not proper for wool fibers,” diminished with the development of nylon, olefin, and acetate carpets. Additionally, in the 1970s the growing popularity of Scotch Guard led to steam cleaning being a better-chosen cleaning method. Carpet Cleaning Methods The dry cleaning method involves applying special solvents to carpet and extracting via a dry vacuum system. Carpet manufacturers claim that oftentimes traces of these solvents...

Got Mice? Call Victor.

Got Mice? Call Victor.

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Victor Pest. All opinions are 100% mine. Ever had a mouse problem? How about rats? Opossums? I grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia. Never did I have an encounter with a mouse let alone a rat. Not sure if I knew what an opossum was much less have problems with one in the house.  All three are rodents from the same family and look alike. Living down south brought about experience with all kinds of unfamiliar creatures, I’m talking scary looking creatures like wood spiders for example. Those are one hairy spider and they jump. OMG! Need to scream, just meet up with one of those bad boys in the bathroom. Of course, the palmettos bugs are right up on the scream meter. They look a giant flying roach, by giant I mean starting at one inch in length. The first mobil home we rented was situated...

Tips for cleaning stainless steel cookware

Tips for cleaning stainless steel cookware

Tried-and-true tips for cleaning stainless steel cookware. General Care For daily care, hand-wash stainless steel cookware in hot, soapy water and dry it thoroughly with a soft cloth before storing. To remove the residue, fill the pot or pan with 1 part vinegar to three parts water. Bring to a boil, let it cool to the touch, then wash thoroughly with hot, soapy water and dry. Burned-on food is removed by first filling the pan with enough warm, soapy water to cover the mess then allow soaking for one hour. Boil the soapy water for 10 to 15 minutes and allow the water cool to the touch. Immediately scrub with a nylon-scouring pad. Wash again with hot, soapy water, rinse and dry. Repeat for stubborn residue. Use non-abrasive cleanser like Bon Ami Polishing...
