Women, Obesity, and Education

College Bound Woman

Interesting info on how weight and level of education have been proven to be related. What do women, obesity, and education have to do with each other? Quite a bit actually. Recently the CDC released statistics collected between 2005 and 2008 relating to obesity in theUnited States. According to the CDC survey, between 2007 and 2008, more than one-third of all American adults were obese. The data showed surprising statistics relating to women and obesity in relation to their level of education. Obesity means that a person’s body mass index (BMI) is 30 or greater. To calculate body mass you divide weight by height. People who are obese are at greater risk to have other health problems such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and cancer. Compared to the rest of the world, the U.S. is by far the most overweight nation. And contrary to popular belief, it isn’t the impoverished that have troubles with obesity, it is all those...

Upromise College Rewards Celebrates 10th Anniversary

Upromise College Rewards Celebrates 10th Anniversary

This post brought to you by UPromise. All opinions are 100% mine. Midlife has brought about a new lifestyle, qualifying me for The Sandwich Generation inclusion. Yes, I am included in the ever-growing generation who simultaneously care for parents and children. This cultural shift in combination with the horrible economy nearly made college unattainable for my youngest son, which brings me to share a bit about Upromise. Upromise is a reward program that can help parents pay for college. This month Upromise is celebrating its 10th Anniversary in a big way! Hard to believe I have been a member for ten years. Upromise Dream Sweepstakes To celebrate the Upromise 10th anniversary they are giving away $20,000 to users who share their story. Parents can participate in the sweepstakes by sharing how they supported a child’s dream! Users can vote on their favorite stories by “liking” them. Upromise is giving 10 winners $1000.00 and a grand prizewinner $10,000.00. With nothing...

Box Tops, Walmart, General Mills=$25 School Supplies

Box Tops, Walmart, General Mills=$25 School Supplies

Being a midlife woman has not abridged my child advocacy position in the least. Unbelievably most of my adult life was spent supporting children throughout the community, both directly and indirectly. The whole concept of child advocacy is amazing because I was not “child friendly” growing up. “I’m never having kids,” I recall complaining to mother when forced to babysit for the family. The current social culture necessitates the need child advocacy and encouragement now more than ever. Participating in the PTL, volunteering for local community events, serving as homeroom mother, youth leader, and later a youth director exposed the true blessings that are both given and received through volunteering. Currently I am the chairperson of our church day school, another volunteer endeavor.  Having served on the board for more than ten years, I was delighted to accept the opportunity to support the Box Tops for Education Program in conjunction with Walmart and My Blog Spark. The Box Tops...

Blog with Integrity AND Buy Groceries?

Many bloggers advocate, even preach on blog integrity. I’m not referring to those bloggers who offer honest blogging advice. I agree with those who condemn blogs created solely to make a buck; the blogs with hidden links, Trojan laced banners, and posts that are unreadable garble. I’m referring to the “holier than thou” bloggers who portray writing paid blog posts and sponsored reviews as dishonest garbage. No matter what or how well the post may be written the author has no integrity because they write for money? Some of these blog authors go as far as to condemn writing about a product or service unless one has personally used or purchased it. Online research and review does not seem to be enough for many of these blog owners. They warn about being viewed as untrustworthy and not true to their readers. I remember reading a guest post on one of my favorite blogs. (no names because it IS one of my favorites) The author named several services that...

Forex Trading Anyone?

Have you ever wondered about the financial benefits of forex trading? I have. Prior to my son moving to the UK, I had no knowledge of foreign exchange much less forex trading awareness. His college budget being so tight and the terrible exchange rates from USD to GPD prompted me to explore available options, which led me to read up on Forex trading. Foreign exchange, aka Forex is the worldwide-decentralized financial market for the trading of international currencies. The foreign exchange market determines the relative values of different currencies. Obviously, I was interested in a short-term gain that might expand his study abroad college budget a bit. Typically done through a broker, Forex trading involves selecting a currency pair that is likely to change. From there an order is places and a trade position established. Upon closing the trade, a gain or loss is returned to the owner account. From everything I read Forex, trading can be a risky...
