Ten Minutes to Feeling Good Every Day

Ten Minutes to Feeling Good Every Day

Start the Day off Right – Ten Minutes to Feeling Good Every Day As the days begin to grow shorter and shorter, it’s likely you’re finding your to-do list has reached a length of world-record length proportions. With so much on your plate, it is easy to forget to take care of yourself. Leslie Bonci, MPH, RD of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, recommends you take at least 10 minutes each morning and dedicate them to doing something good for yourself. She’s developed several simple and easy tips that can boost your mood and productivity before even stepping out the door. “Ten minutes may not seem like it will make a difference, but it’s plenty of time to get your day started off right,” says Bonci. “It’s important to remember that living a healthy lifestyle is a life-long commitment – that doesn’t necessarily need to take a lot of your valuable time.” Confidence is Key: Say to yourself...

Omega-3 fatty acids – Balance those eggs!

omega 3 vitamins

What do you know about Omega fatty acids? Everyone talks about Omega-3s but what about Omega-6s, did you know eggs contain omega-6s? There is a relationship between the two, a balancing act if you will. According to the archives at positscience.com, in 2005, a study was published in the Archives of Neurology. The study revealed participants of normal aging who ate fish once a week slowed the decline of the thought process by 10%. An earlier study in the same journal found people 65 or older who ate fish once a week or more had a 60% lower risk of Alzheimer disease compared to those who did not eat fish. A number of scientists credit the Omega-3 fatty acids for the positive results. While the studies are not conclusive, they do strongly suggest a possible connection. I have heard Omega-3s perform many health “miracles” in people. WebMd reports, some experts say Omega-3s encourage the production of inflammation controlling body chemicals of...

An American Holiday Spirit – Support VVA

Vietnam Veterans of America

The United States has experienced much change, great struggles, and just recently several very scary threats. It has been a tough, fearful road yet with the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays rapidly approaching, an atmosphere of charity and giving seems to also emerge. It seems impossible to measure the value of the freedom our veterans provided. Let us not forget our American Veterans this holiday season. The Vietnam Veterans of America is congressionally chartered and exclusively dedicated to Vietnam-era veterans and their families. Founded in 1978, Vietnam Veterans of America is organized as a not-for-profit 501(c) (19) corporation. Organized in 46 states with 630 local chapters and over 50,000 members, their founding principle is “Never again will one generation of veterans abandon another.” Vietnam Veterans of America, Illinois State Council has been supporting Vietnam Veterans and their families for over 25 years. One of the VVA programs, beneficial to both the donor and recipient, is the Car Donation program. Cars...

Hello My Name Is – Breast Cancer Awareness

Hello My Name Is – Breast Cancer Awareness

Everyone has heard of Quill, am I right? Quill boasts fantastic prices, great service, and mail-order convenience since 1956. Joining in the fight against breast cancer, Quill has pledged to donate up to $20,000.00 to the cause through the “Hello My Name Is” campaign. Cancer has taken more than ten of my family and friends over the years. In 1999, my mother lost her battle with reoccurring breast cancer. We were all thankful for the twenty years we share after her initial battle was won, or so we thought. Mom had routine cancer check ups and continued to be “cancer free”. Sneakily, the cancer silently returned, going undetected for nearly five years. After going undetected for so long the diagnosis reveal the cancer intertwined within the plexus. Radiation stopped progression to her brain. Chemotherapy did little to stop the metastasizing of this dastardly cancer. Being a strong willed woman, Mom wanted to continue with treatment even though her body...

U-Cord Banking-A matter of family protection

twin babies

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of CryoCell International. All opinions are 100% mine. Did you know that umbilical chord blood stem cells are known to treat more than 75 diseases, and have been used in over 12,000 transplants worldwide? I lost several friends in high school to leukemia, diabetes, and lymphoma as well as many family members to cancer. Stem cell replacement research was in the very early stages at the time and offered as an alternative, experimental treatment. I can not imagine how differently the results may have been had the research of today been complete not to mention the use of ones own stem cells as a replacement. Stem cells are known to be the core source of blood cells in the human body. These generate and assure the blood cell requirements. Umbilical cord blood is blood that remains in the umbilical cord and placenta at the time of birth. Many professional...

Flavorful Low-Sodium Family Meals

Flavorful Low-Sodium Family Meals with Mrs. Dash Answering to the demands of high blood pressure within my family, I add no more than a pinch of salt when preparing dinner these days. Salt is huge flavor enhancer, something the body needs, and something I have personally enjoyed in abundance. Too much salt is not a good thing. Years ago, rather than denying the family and myself flavorful meals, I decided to try out several salt substitutes. I found the most flavorful to be Mrs. Dash. Since that time, Mrs. Dash has developed 15 seasoning blends and 6 marinades too. The seasoning blends and marinades are all natural and contain at least fourteen herbs and spices, as always. These flavorful products are not only salt free, but contain no m.s.g. as well.
