Go Local, Go America | New American Christmas Tradition Makes You Smile

Go Local, Go America | New American Christmas Tradition Makes You Smile

Americans are pissed off. Regardless of political affiliation, race, religion, or no affiliation at all, one thing remains constant people are suffering. Thanks to greed and corruption, Hubby and I have been forced to take a step back and really examine our decisions both past and future. Being midlife boomers and partaking in the sandwich generation phenomena, we have chosen the attitude of perseverance and patience to survive this financial and moral mess. While others are retaliating and playing the blame game we are reflecting, rearranging, and reducing; helping family, friends, and neighbors along the way, and remaining thankful for what we do have! This “New Tradition” came to me in an email from a long time friend. It’s not a new idea, but rather a rebirth of an old way of thinking. Before the days of corporate America, what DID people gift at Christmas, I thought. Baked goods from their kitchen, hand made items from their stores or workshops, and food from their farms were the popular gifts, am I correct?...

Pier 1 – Unique Holiday Gifts

Pier 1 – Unique Holiday Gifts

This post brought to you by Pier 1 Imports. All opinions are 100% mine. Known for unique international and inspirational styles, Pier 1 has always been a personal favorite. Everything from scented candles to dinnerware as well as furniture can be found there. Being a  customer for many years, I have patronized Pier 1 in Plymouth Meeting Pa, Orlando Fl, San Diego Ca, and Ft Myers Fl to name a few. The bamboo furniture was my preference when I was young. With so many different cushion patterns, colors, and fabrics this furniture is purely fun and fabulous. It saddened me to part with the Papasan chair when moving. With age, my opinions and lifestyle has mellowed a bit and distinctive, impressive dinnerware has become especially interesting. The Mexicali, Villa Del Sol, or  Mantinea dinnerware would be the ideal Christmas gift for me. (I hope my family reads this post – wink wink) With the holiday season now in full swing, Pier...

Tips for Holiday Tech Shopping

Being a seasoned mom geek, one can imagine how much I enjoy Holiday Tech Shopping! Having children grow up in the technology era has helped me achieve this geek status. Over the years, the boys have received many tech gifts. In our house, I am the tech shopper. Here are my tips to obtain a high-quality tech deal at a reasonable (or better) price. Decide upon a price range first, consider shipping charges when purchasing online, and stick to it. Always, and I mean always compare prices with top-notch online retailers. When comparing prices be sure to include the model numbers in the comparison as well. Oftentimes products look very similar from one model release to the next. This type of comparison-shopping takes time so be sure to allow enough searching time before the actual holiday gift date. Always read the warranty information. Check the country of origin, warranty length, and exclusions. If you live in the USA be...

Vacation RV Memories

Vacation RV Memories

Traveling in an RV is a wonderful way to experience the country sights. When I was growing up, my neighbors had an RV. They used to travel all over the country, as I remember. My only experience vacationing in an RV was a pleasant one. My parents agreed to travel from Pennsylvania to Key West Florida with our elderly neighbors. Being fourteen, I was dreading this trip. The thought of being cooped up with my parents, little sister, and my neighbors was horrifying! We started out at night and made our first stop in North Carolina, my neighbor’s hometown. There we visited with their family. Being from a northern state, I was intrigued by the southern draw and their slow, laid-back lifestyle. They served us a good old-fashioned southern dinner; Fried chicken, collard greens, potatoes, and corn bread. Wow what a fabulous meal! After dinner, the women sat in the side room chewing tobacco and chatting. The spittoons were...
