Silicone or Metal Baking Pans?

Silicone or Metal Baking Pans?

There is much controversy surrounding the right type of baking pan. Silicone baking pans were introduced many years ago. Searching Google resulted in articles dated back to 2004, which primarily discussed the ease of use and safety of silicone as it related to baking and cooking utensils. The majority of silicone baking information was initially favorable. Spatulas with a 500-degree safety rating along with baking mats proved to be the most popular products. Presently there is a vast difference in the opinions surrounding silicone bake ware. Many say it alters the flavor, cooks unevenly, and is unsafe while others say the complete opposite. Silicone or Metal Brownie Pan Comparison Vowing to improve my baking skills and knowledge in 2010 along with the desire to form my own opinion prompted this baking pan comparison. My family love brownies and suggested trying an individual brownie pan after seeing a commercial on television. Buying one sounded like a reasonable idea especially since...

Favorite Foods Made Healthier, Oh boy this is one topic hard to master. And, when you do finally make your favorite foods healthier don’t tell the hubby or the kids! I have been altering many of the family’s favorite dishes to provide a healthier meal. Before I share my top ten healthy changes, let me share a bit of personal experience about Weight Watchers, the founders of “Eat Your Best”. I have an Aunt who, when I was a child, weighed well over 200 lbs. She was very self conscious of her weight and being as such it dictated her lifestyle. She was shy, quiet in public, and quite an introvert. Little did she realize that in reality she was a beautiful, creative woman, and an excellent baker and cook. She made my first son’s baby cake and it looked like a bakery store cake, so beautifully decorated as though done by a professional. This unhappy personality continued until...

Whole Grain Awareness Challenge – GM Cereal Giveaway

Whole Grain Awareness Challenge – GM Cereal Giveaway

Just last month General Mills announced a commitment to further reduce sugar in cereals advertised to kids under 12 to single-digit grams of sugar per serving. Additionally, the company has been increasing key nutrients, such as calcium and vitamin D, and providing whole grain. Having survived early morning dilemmas as a working mother, I was excited to share the news about General Mills. To understand my excitement, let me give you a little family history.  My mother was a stay at home mom. Her children ate a home cooked breakfast every morning… except for Saturday. Cartoons and sweet cereal; a treat for us kids and a break for mom. I am thankful that my mother taught us the importance of a good breakfast.   While I may not have cooked a meal in the morning, I did insist the boys ate a good breakfast. Of course, the breakfast tradition of cartoons and sweet cereal on Saturday morning continued in my...
